Rejoice the Lord is King
Rejoice, The Lord is King
Rev. Dr. Tunde Oladimeji preached from Jeremiah 23:1–6 and Colossians 1:11–20, reminding us that this final Sunday of the Christian calendar—Christ the King Sunday—celebrates the unshakable reign of Jesus Christ. Unlike earthly rulers, Christ is not voted in or out. His kingdom is eternal, and His authority is absolute. As the hymn declares, “Rejoice, the Lord is King!” When Jesus rose from the dead, He declared His reign forever.
What does it mean that Jesus is King? It means He is sovereign, and our present battles do not determine our future. Many believe that if God does not grant the miracle they desire, He must not be with them—but this is not true. God is always with His people, even in pain and confusion. As Romans 8:28 assures us, God is working all things together for good for those who love Him. Pastor Tunde compared it to Nigerian pepper: by itself it may be unpleasant, but when blended with meat and leaves and cooked together, it becomes delicious. In the same way, God weaves every part of our lives—good and painful—into His perfect plan.
Philippians 4:4 calls us to “rejoice in the Lord always,” reminding us that trials do not cancel the presence of our King. Christ reigns now, and He will return in glory. One day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This is our hope, our confidence, and our joy as we prepare to enter the season of Advent.
