Our Vision

Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, Cornerstone Methodist Church envisions multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ who flourish in scriptural holiness as we worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. We are committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the inspiration and authority of the Scriptures, and the work of the Holy Spirit in conveying God’s truth and grace to all people. Cornerstone is a church that recognizes and deploys the gifts and contributions of each part of the church, working as partners in the gospel with equal voice and leadership. We watch over one another in love and bear witness to the transforming power of the Good News as we humbly, but boldly, strive to serve others as ambassadors of Christ!

Our Beliefs

We believe in one true God who exists eternally as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the unique Son of God, fully divine and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross as our substitute, bearing the penalty for our sins. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of God. We believe that Jesus will return to earth at the appointed time set by God

We believe the Holy Spirit is ever-present and actively working in the world, making people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. When a person receives Jesus as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit indwells them, reminding them of Christ’s teachings, guiding them in their faith journey, convicting them of sin, and pointing them to the Father.

We believe the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. We affirm that the core of the Christian faith is revealed in Scripture as “the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 3, NRSV). Therefore, we hold the Bible as our ultimate guide, recognizing its role in teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16, NRSV). We believe Scripture is the church’s primary and final authority on all matters of faith, practice, and lifestyle.

All human beings are created in the image of God, yet all have sinned and fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from God, leaving us in need of a Savior.

We believe that salvation is a gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. Before accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, a person is in spiritual darkness (John 8:12) and separated from God by sin (John 3:36; Ephesians 2:11-12). Without Christ, one is far from God (Ephesians 2:13) and faces eternal separation from Him. However, through faith in Jesus, a person is saved from this eternal separation (John 3:16). Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me” (John 14:6).

True peace and fulfillment cannot be found apart from a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Human efforts alone are insufficient to sustain lasting peace. Jesus calls us to bring our burdens to Him, offering rest for our souls (Matthew 11:28). A relationship with Christ brings peace in the midst of life’s challenges, as He reassures us, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

We believe in the personal and bodily return of Jesus Christ, who will bring final judgment and establish His eternal kingdom. The exact time and nature of His return remain unknown (Matthew 24:36). However, we affirm that each person’s eternal destiny—either in heaven or separated from God—is determined by their response to Jesus Christ.

We believe God created us for a deep, personal relationship with Him, placing within us a longing for eternity (Ecclesiastes 3:11). He invites us to draw near through prayer, promising to respond when we seek Him. “Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you” (James 4:8). God’s response is filled with wisdom and blessing, as He declares, “Call to Me, and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own” (Jeremiah 33:3).

We believe God designed us for community—both with Him and with one another. Humanity was not complete until God created both man and woman as companions and helpers (Genesis 2:18-25). Jesus prayed that His followers would experience unity, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:20-21). The apostle Paul reminds us, “In Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” (Romans 12:5). Because of this, we are committed to fostering community through small groups, Bible studies, and gatherings that encourage spiritual growth (Hebrews 10:24-25).

We believe our faith in Jesus calls us to share the gospel intentionally. Jesus declared that His followers are “the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13) and “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), emphasizing that we cannot separate our relationship with Him from our responsibility to be His witnesses. The world depends on believers to proclaim the good news of Jesus: “But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14).

The Cornerstone Methodist Church recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion (see Article 16 of the Articles of Religion of the Global Methodist Church).

While baptism is not required for salvation, it serves as an act of initiation into the church and an outward sign of our identity as children of God. Baptism is a means of experiencing God’s grace, which is freely given rather than earned. Even before we recognize His presence, God is already working in our lives, calling us into His family: “Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure” (Ephesians 1:4-6). Because baptism is rooted in God’s gracious choice rather than human effort, we recognize infant baptism as a valid expression of God’s covenant. However, those baptized as children must later affirm their personal faith in Jesus Christ. For youth and adults, baptism follows a profession of faith and repentance of sin. We offer baptism by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling, in accordance with Christian tradition. We also honor any prior baptism performed in a Christian church, including infant baptism (see Article 17 of the Articles of Religion of the Global Methodist Church).

Like Baptism, Holy Communion is a way we experience God's grace in a tangible way.  It is a moment to renew our relationship with Jesus.  We believe Communion is a symbolic act, remembering Christ's broken body and shed blood (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). While the bread and juice are not literally transformed, we believe Christ is truly present with us in grace.  Our table is open to all who wish to receive.
